Meet Danny!

Meet Danny, one of trainers, and an all-around happy guy!
(We dare you to not find him smiling!)

Meet Danny giving one of our new Expresso Bikes a whirl!

The Expresso bikes are a virtual reality bike ride that lets you set scenic routes, chase games & races, multiple rider races. Plus, you can still monitor real-time data, such as speed, cadence, grade and gear, power, heart rate, and calories burned throughout the session.

Best of all, once you register online and you can track
your progress at home, work, or play!

Or as Danny says: You sweat it all off here, and show off to your friends at home!

and as a gymnastics instructor.
Today, she's working for Unicef, under the umbrella of the United Nations.
Recognize any other familiar faces? Maybe even your own? Let us know!

What a Nailbiter!

Last night, the Metro Marauders defeated the Mirimichi Timberwolves 3-2 after:
1- 5 minute overtime of 4 on 4
1- shootout of 3 on 3
and finally a Sudden Death Shootout for the victory!

Tight game & an exciting finish!
If you like hockey, you'll love the 6-1 Marauders!

No one was hurt in the making of this photo.

We think.

Meet Debbie Murphy, Athletic Program Specialist,
although over her past 27 years here, many of you already have!
This is Debbie taking part in the Intu-Flow workshop this weekend, learning how it works and what it's all about.
We don't think she hit anyone over the head with the club
... but that has yet to be confirmed.
We do know she was raving about the program afterwards!

Arena Makeover: Extreme Edition

Remember this from a few days earlier?

...skating arena... ice... cold...

The boys worked hard overnight and after the last hockey game Sunday evening,
turned the arena from what you see above, to this...

... all ready for a trade show of epic proportions: The Armstrong Food Show,
with over 75 vendors & exhibitors.
Not bad work for a Sunday night.

Happy Birthday to you!

Why mess up your own home?
Leave the mess with us!
(This would be 1 party room:  pre-mess. You don't want to see the post-mess. Although, maybe you've already seen it in your home...)

The DSP Hockey Guru

Meet Arena Manager, Rod Dickson's Desk. It's Thursday and Rod won't be found at his desk. He's currently scurrying around, getting a weekend of hockey organized. If you're quick and don't blink, you can catch him zipping up the hall, working on his checklist!

See! There he is. Meet Rod. This weekend you'll find him here: Friday night at the Metro Marauders hockey game versus Dieppe,  and Saturday evening & Sunday afternoon for the Major Midget games against the Valley & South Shore!

We'd love to see you here...
and Rod would love to talk hockey with another friendly face!

Energy Efficient Initiatives

This is Mel, at least the lower half of Mel.

Mel is in the process of putting some finishing touches on another Dartmouth Sportsplex Energy Efficient initiative. The pipes you see above will take waste heat from the refrigeration plant (the steam you normally see blowing from condensers outside of buildings like ours) and
it will be used to help heat the swimming pools!
Waste not!

Meet Ryan

Meet Ryan Kemp. Your new Aquatic Co-Ordinator.
This is Ryan competing at the 2010 World Triathlon Championships
this past August in Germany.
Note the big bruise & road rash on his shoulder. A crash at the 15km mark in the bike portion nearly ended his race. Instead, he got back on a broken bike, with a separated right clavicle & ruptured tendons
and made it through another 115km of biking and 30km run.
Ryan finished 212 out of over 800 competitors.
Don't hesitate to say, "Well Done" or just, "Hi" to Ryan next time you see him!

Does Earl make it official?

With Hurricane Earl... Tropical Storm Earl... Big, Wet, Windy Mess Earl upon us, does this really mark the end of summer vacation? Day camps are over too. Here's a day camp shot from the early to mid-90's, out on McNab's Island? Do you recognize anyone? Maybe yourself?

Intro Week is Almost Here!

The Dartmouth Crusaders are one of Atlantic Canada's largest competitive swim teams. Since their beginning they have:

* Produced three Olympians: Marie Moore, Andrew Haley and Coach Bill Greenlaw. Haley won a bronze medal at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta. In 1997, DCSC placed a section of four tiles in the Sportsplex Hall of Fame to honor these achievements.

* Have seen graduates competing for U.S. colleges on athletic scholarships. Many more race for Canadian universities.

*  Placed seven swimmers and a head coach on the 2005 Canada Games Team.

* Won nine consecutive provincial team championships.

* Set numerous NS Provincial records, with several records still standing today.

* Won numerous national and junior national medals

But don't be fooled by all their success. They are still a fun family-friendly club, encouraging swimmers to have fun and develop positive personal relationships with their coaches and peers, and to celebrate each success.

Group outtings are common for all age groups.

And if there is a way to make training fun, why not have a Pumpkin Relay at Halloween?

Intro Week - Starts this Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the Dartmouth Sportsplex. Call Michelle in the Crusader office for more info: 469-8610

Last Day of Summer!

School starts tomorrow and what better way to end the summer AND cool off then with a dip in the pool!
